What is a concussion?
A concussion is a type of brain injury resulting from the rapid movement of the brain inside the skull due to a forceful impact on the head or another part of the body. This impact causes a chemical imbalance in the brain cells, resulting in decreased blood flow and temporary energy deficits within the brain. Common symptoms of a concussion include loss of consciousness, headaches, a sensation of pressure in the head, neck pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and balance issues. These symptoms can vary in severity and may not always appear immediately after the injury. Recognizing the signs of a concussion is crucial for prompt and appropriate medical attention, as well as for implementing effective management strategies to ensure a safe and gradual return to normal activities.
