Books open doors to the whole world. Through reading you can literally teach yourself almost anything, grow your mind and brain, and travel to far off adventures of all kinds; actual or fiction.

It has been said that the amount of books on ones bookshelf directly correlates with brainpower and learning.  Children who read develop more complex minds and the amount they read shows in their daily life and their grades. Reading opens the mind to imagination, to setting big goals, and to new experiences.  Being able to read is a lifelong gift.

The Pure Team takes pride in our bookshelves and would like to share with you some of our favourites and why we recommend them.

Here are 6 Books Recommended by the Pure Staff:

1. Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

This book is a quick read that empowers women to “stop believing the lies about who you are so you can become who you were meant to be.”  While this book is mostly common sense, it’s important to remember that “common sense is not that common” and too many people aren’t valuing themselves the way they should be.  Don’t believe the lies! Learn the truth, tips and tricks, of how to mentally get yourself past them.

2. Born To Run By Christopher McDougall

This one’s about Ultra running, and why a Tarahumara tribe of the Mexican Copper Canyon are so dang good at running. It was just an amazing story with some very eccentric characters. True stories are often awesome and this one mades you feel like you could run 100km.

3. “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincero

This is a great book if you’re looking for something empowering and motivational. Show yourself how you can step into being and feeling great, and living an awesome life. Besides “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’.” ~Audrey Hepburn

4. 36 Hours in Canada and the USA by New York Times

This read is full of adventuring possibilities to use as a guide to plan mini-weekend getaways! Of course you can always add and subtract activities as best suits you and/or you and your family.  Recharge your batteries, experience life and enjoy adventure. Seriously, would you have ever eaten at a restaurant named Gu that doesn’t even have a sign on the outside of it…it’s worth it!

5. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey

We’ve all heard of this one, but this book truly helps you understand that you have control over your own world, and that your results are directly related to your own actions.  As a bonus this also comes in a kids version: 7 Habits for Highly Effective Kids by Sean Covey.  Teach kids great habits young and help set them up for life success.

6. Harry Potter by JK Rowling

This series is a true inspiration. It is wildly imaginative and paints the most vivid images in your head while you are reading, drawing you right into the story. Beyond the story itself, it shows that you can truly create your own life. Author JK Rowling is an inspiration for not wallowing in self-pity or giving up while on welfare; she created an amazing life out of an idea that she made come to life, showing us all that you truly can create your own reality.

Whether you are reading fact or fiction, let your brain take you to new places. Read for enjoyment. Read for learning. Read to yourself. Read to your children. Read with your spouse. We hope you enjoy reading, and our top recommended books, as much as we do!
