Did you ever look back on a week and wonder where the time went because you were so insanely busy?
Today’s life seems to have the majority families on the run, barely having time to eat healthy meals together or spend time together being active. With schedules becoming increasingly busy and chaotic, it’s no wonder why health related concerns are on the rise.
Now is the time to start taking time out to refocus and rebalance our lives and our schedules. Time to start putting the important things like health and wellness first.
Here are 6 Healthy Habits for the whole family that will help you live a healthy happy fulfilled life:
One – Exercise
There’s more to exercise then just the physical aspect. Being active helps your heart stay strong, it reduces bad cholesterol, reduces stress, refreshes oxygen in the body, and increases endorphins, which in turn increase happiness.
Two – Eat a Balanced Diet
Schedules have families always on the go, which can sometimes resort to poor eating habits. Reaching for that fast convenient snack in the pantry that’s high in sugar, or stopping for fast food just to fill the hunger void. Make sure you cut down on manufactured food in the house and stock up on whole foods. Prepping meals in advance when you have a few spare hours will help keep you and your family on the right track to eating a well balanced diet. You will find that a bit of planning and an hour or so of prep will actually save you time and you will feel more energetic.
Three – Gratitude
Practice gratitude daily. By sharing with your family members the many things you are thankful for and encouraging your children to do the same, you will feel more fulfilled and will teach your children to grow up with a more positive outlook on life. Positive mindset reduces stress and increases longevity.
Four – Personal Time
Schedule regular time for yourself. Having alone time for just you will help you reconnect with yourself so that you don’t get lost and overwhelmed with the craziness of a busy life. Quiet time doing what you love will also reset your mood and help you to be the best version of yourself. It is amazing what even 5 minutes of reconnection and self time can do.
Five – Reduce Distractions
Have rules for yourself and for members of your family when it comes to screen time. Set boundaries on when and where cell phones are allowed and allot cell phone free times; like at the dinner table or during family activities. Once we eliminate the outside distractions, we are able to really come together as a family, and get to know each other a little better. Spending quality time playing games, or going for a walk will help open up the communication between parents and children. It is amazing how much time you can find in your week if you limit the time spend watching tv or playing on your phone.
Six – Take your Vitamins
Even if you are pretty dedicated to eating balanced whole food diet, there are still vitamins and minerals that you may be missing. Supplementing with the right vitamins and minerals helps keep your heart strong, your immune system functioning properly, and keeps other areas of your body, like your brain and muscles, working at their optimal performance. Vitamin D is one key supplement that we can not get enough of naturally in our northern location.
Making some small lifestyle changes can improve your family’s overall health and wellness, and improve your quality of life. You will notice that these healthy family habits will lead to less stress and a more positive outlook on life. It’s time to put your health first.
IT’S YOUR HEALTH.
OWN IT.
