What is A Counselling Psychologist?

What will my experience look like?
Everyone’s experience will look different, however, therapy is proven to improve mood, increase happiness, and facilitate positive change. Your experience with therapy will be directly influenced by your reason for therapy. Therapy can help to reduce stress and anxiety, manage depression, and build a better understanding of yourself throughout the process. At Pure, your therapist will help you to identify your goals in therapy and build a better system of coping skills. Therapy often provides a new perspective on the challenges you are facing and helps you to towards a more meaningful life!
What will my first session look like?
Sometimes therapy can seem like a mysterious experience and the thought of talking to a complete stranger about your challenges can be even more stressful than the problem itself! That is completely understandable. That is why, at Pure, we recommend that you show up a bit early to the appointment to give you time to relax in our waiting room and fill out the necessary paperwork.
The first session will focus on completing the intake paperwork with your therapist and exploring the reason you came to therapy in the first place. The most important part of therapy is that you are able to build a strong relationship of trust with your therapist so that you can be open and honest, and committed to your success in therapy.
How many sessions will I need?
This is a great question, and every answer will be different. Therapy can last for a few sessions, to months, or even years! At Pure, we are ready to offer you both short, Solution-Focused based therapy to explore the most pressing issue you are facing, or more long-term therapy to explore the more deep-rooted challenges you are facing.
It is important to first of all, understand the reason you wanted therapy in the first place, and from there, you can work with your therapist to determine the length of therapy. However, it is up to you, the client, to determine when you are finished with therapy.
